In the shots above you’ll notice that baboons have a neat way of storing excess food in expandable cheek pouches.
I’m choosing to convey this week’s photo challenge: “Spare” as an adjective using the connotation as additional to what is required for ordinary use.
No one else would have come up with this Liz 🙂 are they actually storing food or just taking it back home?
It’s stored for later – spacing out calorie needs through the day. – like a snack pack.
What are they munching on, Liz?
They’re tucking into the leucadendron cones – which carry seeds. It’s a lot of work for them to break them down and they leave a trail of discarded segments with the odd seed which then gets dispersed by the wind.
Ha, so those rascals come in pretty handy in this ecosystem!
Love this approach to this weeks challenge. They are adorable, your pictures.
Doesn’t nature come up trumps!
What a great idea… both yours and the baboons!
Fit for purpose! 🙂
How very handy to have cheek pouches! Wish I had the same sometimes. It would save a lot of time. 🙂
Neat aren’t they! Like having spare pockets for the go-pack 😊 would be most useful.
