The Cederberg Wilderness area lies just 200 kms north of Cape Town – so close yet a world away. It’s known mostly for it’s rugged mountains and it’s rich legacy of San Rock Art. It has more rock paintings per km2 than anywhere else. The wilderness trails are superb, and to venture into this grand landscape is a humbling experience. The weathered sandstone is eroded and shaped into fantastical formations. Pinnacles, buttresses, fingers, dragon-backed ridges all conspire into magical form. Cataclysmic events have turned up fault lines, and strewn about great rocks of tonnage, and it is as though Pattacake Man has come down to play and pile rocks into random form.
