September 29, 2012September 29, 2012 Picnic area yields good pickings for baboons. Baboons feast on sweet melons left by fishermen at Millers Point. Manuel, a dispersing male joined the Smitswinkel troop last year, quickly learned the perks of raiding at Millers Point. An easy meal = where there are people there are food opportunities. Still not weaned, but here a baby baboon tries a taste of spanspek – sweet melon. Picnic areas will remain attractive to baboons; how realistic is it to expect baboons not to raid?
