Just as dusk was falling we had visitors across our patio: Mongoose with her pair of offspring.
We were first alerted to their presence by the insistent alarm calls of the roosting birds.ย They were just passing through and Mum shepherded them into the nearby vegetation and the birds settled back down again.
Curious little sweeties! ๐
They are! It’s lovely to see them playing… dashing after each other, rough and tumbling… magic ๐
They’re so cute!
Yes … those little graceful long tails, limbs…. Thanks for visiting ๐
A fascinating creature and you captured the family portrait at just the right moment!
Thanks Nick… they’re pretty keen hunters – mopping up the lizards and field mice. It was a lucky break… mum was checking to see if the coast was clear before dashing past : -)
They almost look like they’re posing for you. What a wonderful shot.
Yes, it was almost like a proud mum showing off her “twins”.
Cool photo!
Thanks Dennis ๐
What a special treat! Can a mongoose be domesticated, are they ever pets?
They can become quite tame, although not sure about becoming truly domesticated. Yes, i have heard of them being kept as pets, but they’re definitely not the cuddly type. Good to have them around to keep rats and snakes down.
Fabulous photo of a lovely little family ๐
Thanks Mike… the mongooses are doing well; but the birds get a bit jittery having them around as they steal their eggs.
very cute onlookers! Very good picture!
Thanks Daisy… they are really quite impish, playful too. I watched a young mongoose playing tag with a baby dassie. The dassie parents weren’t having it and broke up the game.
What a moment you’ve captured, Liz! Perfect timing. A bit here and there and the photograph would’ve lost its impact.
A sweet family portrait. I love the expression on their faces:)
Thanks Uday. My anthropomorphic interpretation is proud mama showing off her ‘twins’ ๐
