Dawn crept in with a quiet sparkle this morning. There was none of the glorious fanfare of deep reds or orange, just a pure silvery autumn light. Roused for the activity of the day, the African penguin (Spheniscus demersus) at Boulders Beach set off to their feeding grounds in False Bay.

How fortunate to be there at early morning. Loved these penguins when we made our stop there, but these photos are really nicer than the ones I took!

They remind me of commuters off to work…. Lots of prep too before they set off, warm up stretches, a bit of preening and then they’re off! Characterful little creatures!
