Dawn crept in with a quiet sparkle this morning. There was none of the glorious fanfare of deep reds or orange, just a pure silvery autumn light. Roused for the activity of the day, the African penguin (Spheniscus demersus) at Boulders Beach set off to their feeding grounds in False Bay.
Brie Anne Demkiw sets the photo challenge this week with “Early Bird”.
The silvery light suits the subject perfectly 🙂

Thanks Jude – happy to have a spell of windfree days. The SEaster had settled / the light has a good clarity, before the winter NWesterlies appear.
Thanks Jude.
It looks like the penguins are enjoying the quiet sparkles
😊 yes, sea conditions looked inviting and hopefully full of tasty little shoal fish for easy pickings.
Utterly charming…
How fortunate to be there at early morning. Loved these penguins when we made our stop there, but these photos are really nicer than the ones I took!
Glad you got to see these characterful little creatures 🙂 it’s a unique habitat, right on the edge of my suburban neighbourhood.
I think the “silvery” light works excellently with your subjects and their surroundings Liz; I’m sure the water is pretty cold! 😀
Thanks!
They look alert and ready for the day!
They remind me of commuters off to work…. Lots of prep too before they set off, warm up stretches, a bit of preening and then they’re off! Characterful little creatures!
