It was a lucky capture, they’re heading back to the Antarctic and their feeding grounds after the winter season here at our shores to calve and mate. Reckon this was a parting gift 🙂
Great shot. You always have such fascinating, refreshing subjects, things that I’ve never seen, and likely never will see, in person. Enjoy your posts immensely.
Thsnks for the comments 🙂 Was chuffed to get this shot as it’s the backend of their migratory season to our shores. The adults will be wanting to get back to the plankton rich Antartic…
Yes, spectacular is the word! Their sheer size is always what takes one’s breath away. This was quite the most joyful of scenes … like a baby splashing in the bathtub. There may have been two adults close by, and also in the mix was a seal, porpoising and leaping about. Came away feeling elated 🙂
Amazing!

breathtaking!
It was having a blast…. about 6 – 8 jumps. Thrilling…

I’m deeply jealous 🙂
So wish you could travel through the ether and materialise in person 🙂 It was a most joyous event 🙂
Wonderful! What a special moment to see and capture.

I’m not at all surprised that you felt elated 🙂 – Sounds just amazing.
Spectacular! Were you standing on shore?
A ringside seat, on the edge of the patio 🙂
Wonderful Liz – so hard to capture aren’t they?! but so thrilling to watch!
That they are! Indeed lots of shots with the odd fin, tail or missed altogether! Thrilling, yes such an extravagance of exuberance and size 🙂
What a spectacular capture, Liz! One of this so very rewarding moments in the life of a photographer. I turn green with envy now. 😉
Stunning shot, Liz! Great shot!
A spectacular sight you were fortunate to see. It’s a spine tingling sensation to see whales relatively closely.
